Enjoying a a cold one before the season starts again.
Well it is Monday and after a great weekend of sport we have a full programme of Premier League football tomorrow night.
Jose Mourinho has his first trophy for two years and says he is feeling like a kid.
Well congratulations to our little Portugese friend but let us be frank he has been acting like a kid for the last few weeks.
Suggesting a conspiracy theory agin his team and impressing us all with his use of numbers, minute 33 etc etc.
But his Chelsea side were too strong for Tottenham and Zouma’s switch to midfield to replace the injured Matic was an inspired choice if problematic first.
Good wins for Newcastle, Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion who continued to flourish under the stewardship of Tony Pullis.
Manchester Utd won again and after the replacement of Di Maria with Januzaj the big talking point was with referee Roger East who was the only person to confuse Wes Brown, who he sent off, with John O’Shea.
Yesterday NMManchester City persisted with a 4.4.2 formation after their defeat at the hands of Barcelona and were found out again by Liverpool’s quicksilver attacking duo of Sterling and Phiiippe Coutinho.
Countinho followed his great goal against Southampton, voted Goal of the Month on last night’s MOTD 2, with a great strike and a goal worthy of winning any game.
Arsenal followed a disappointed week in the Champions League with a 2.0 victory at home to Everton.
So we begin again tomorrow night with the first of the Villa v Albion local encounters, may the best team win.
To finish with;
Is it only in England where a footballer of the stkill, tenacity and workrate of Wayne Mark Rooney would be constantly pilloried as if he had offended the Nation.
Rooney has now has scored two goals on a number of occasions and has only been beaten in the number of braces he has grabbed by Shearer and Henry.
He has also scored 168 goals in 330 games for United.
Not great you might say but compare his record with Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry who scored 148 in 303 and 174 in 254 for Newcastle and Arsenal respectively.
Strange Nation Britain at times.
I havn’t always liked Steve Claridge but I did love his reaction to LVG’s system, or lack of system with Fellani, Rooney, Van Persie and Mata all up front.
He was beside himself with surprise and confusion.
Cambridge Utd very nearly scored after 1 minute after Blind gave the ball to one of their strikers, oh how he will bore his Grandchildren with that situation in years to come.
In homage to my own incredible football career Tait the C United defending played for a good few minutes in one boot having lost the other.
Only Grange United and Chili Boys will understand this comment, maybe more about Grange when I have more time.
As an aside I am in Gloucester Services which is run buy a company called Westmorland.
An indication of how a service station on the motorway in the UK can be run if the Company concerned can be bothered, source local produce and design it with this century in mind.
So the waste of monety, was it Di Maria, Falcoa or Fellani ?
No me being silly enough to bet £5 on a Cambridge Utd win.
33 to 1
Am I as a blogger allowed to bet on football ?
See ya all soon.
After a super ARSE meeting last night at The Queens Belbroughton my mind flipped to this week-ends football.
Attention span of a gnat as AA often reminds me.
Albion attempt a double over Spurs whilst Villa face an in form Arsenal team at The Emirates on the Sabbath.
But despite my trip to The Theatre of Dreams tomorrow my attention was drawn to Frank Lampard’s return to his home club who he served so valiantly.
I know the VOF ( Mark L Freeman ) will be tuned into his Sky connection at 5.30 on Saturday as the clash of the leaders and the Champions kicks off.
Frank has played in 594 Premier League games, beaten in number only by the Manchester United Assistant Manager and scored 176 goals.
Only Shearer, well ahead, Andy ( sorry Andrew ) Cole and potato head have scored more.
Assists are 102………………..but I hardly think they are worthy or important, sorry Cesc !!
Important to the result of the game is Costa’s appeal against stamping on scoucers.
But I am sure Fred would love to see The Drog make an appearance and score the winner.
Has there ever been a better big time player than Didier Drogba ?
Answers on a postcode to Steve ‘ Turncoat ‘ Bridges @ Old Trafford !!
With just under THREE hours to go some teams have done their business and can relax ;
Chelsea who appeared to have done their stuff signed Loic Remy from QPR to replace Fernando Torres, who joined AC Milan on Friday.
With Costa who is exciting some and annoying others and Cesc Fabregas, who to me is the best buy of this window, already proving his worth Chelsea’s cheque book seemed to be closed but Jose now has three first class strikers.
West Brom have signed an Argentinian, Sebastian Blanco and have sent another bargain Joleon Lescott to the USA to get fit for their next game against Everton.
West Brom have yet to register a win in the new season and to some look a bit like Tottenham who spent all their Gareth Bale money a year ago and registered a number of new players and seemed to go backwards whilst trying to intergrate into a team.
Hull seem to be bought in two new players one being Abel Hernandez.
The big stories, and there will be more, are Radamel Falcao who seems to joined Manchester United on loan and has just arrived at the training ground which will free up Danny Welbeck who could join either Sunderland, Tottenham or Arsenal which would please Gunners fans !
Also leaving Manchester United is Kagawa who at 25 has joined Borussia Dortmund.
James McArthur who was man of the match for Wigan against Birmingham City in a 4.0 victory had a collapsed move to Leicester on Friday who looks to be joining Crystal Palace………………….wish he was coming to West Bromwich Albion.
Villa are negotiating a deal with Man Utd for Tom Cleverley with the player asking for £80,000 a week which would break the wage structure of Villa and earn him more than Vlaar who was recently involved the World Cup Semi-final.
So more from me later as the evening progresses.
Well off we go and an interesting first day.
Loius Van Gaal has realised that Moyes wasn’t the only problem. Maybe playing Ashley Young as a left back was a mistake. Doubt if our LVG makes mistakes mind !
My team West Brom scrape a draw with last year’s fellow strugglers Sunderland.
None of the real fans can quite get their collective heads around why The Chairman has allowed our new strip to dispense with true stripes.
Glen Hodfle has joined the coaching staff at QPR, maybe some defensive coaching about man marking for Rio Glen ? His World Cup criticisms of better defenders coming home to roost.
Anyway more after today’s games from a Motorway Service station somewhere near you !!
Regards and good luck
